Reiki is a Japanese method for relaxation and stress relief, systematised by Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century. The name joins two Japanese words: Rei, a wisdom greater than oneself, and Ki, life energy.

Three days and two nights for those who want to experience Reiki deeply rather than train to practise it.
Pool, onsen, meditation, yoga, qigong, singing bowls and workshops, run on Ikigai's daily schedule. Applies to residential courses and the Reiki Retreat.
No oils, no massage, no manipulation. If you are uneasy about therapies that require undressing or firm pressure, this is a comfortable place to start.
You lie on a treatment table in a quiet room, fully clothed. If lying down is difficult, the session can be given seated.
The practitioner rests their hands lightly through a sequence of positions around the head and shoulders, the abdomen and the feet. Each position is held for three to ten minutes, with others added as you need.
Most guests describe a spreading warmth, deep relaxation and ease. Falling asleep partway through is very common and perfectly fine.
Drink plenty of water and give yourself a little more rest. Some people feel slightly tired or heavy headed on the first day, and it usually passes quickly.
The International Center for Reiki Training notes that a session usually runs 45 to 90 minutes. At Ikigai a private session is 60 minutes.
Ikigai offers both, and guests often ask which to choose.

Many guests take Reiki in the afternoon after the onsen, then close the day with singing bowls. The two do not conflict.
Reiki is a relaxation therapy. That is exactly how Ikigai presents it, and we promise nothing beyond that.
Reiki runs by appointment so the room stays quiet enough. Message ahead and we will arrange the room and a suitable length.
Message or call and we will help you choose the programme that suits your body.
